Please note that all of these events will have additional costs and fees associated with them that participants are expected to cover.
Our Mission Trip this Summer will take us down the road to
Lake Charles, Louisiana where we'll spend a week helping our neighbors in hurricane recovery efforts. We're joining Our Lady of Mercy's High School Youth Group for this, and it's being put for us by Catholic Mission Trips, INC.
Who can come? All rising 9th grade - graduating senior students are invited to apply! Spaces are very limited and are filled as of 5/11/21
What does it cost? $375, but money should not be an obstacle for you! Contact Ms. Catherine for information on partial & full scholarships.
What are the dates? June 27th - July 3rd, prior to the trip there will be at least one group meeting that you will be asked to attend. That date is TBD.
What will we do? Taken from the Cahtolic Mission Trips INC website: "Work projects in Lake Charles are focused on 2020 Hurricane disaster recovery and rebuilding projects for the elderly and underprivileged. Projects in Lake Charles include deconstruction and cleanup work or rebuilding work, such as framing, roofing, siding, sheetrock, flooring, insulation, painting, building wheelchair ramps, and landscape work"
What else will we do? Mass, opportunities for Confession & Adoration, talks, games, and small groups in the evenings, lots of time for building of faith and community! We'll have a "fun day" at the end of the week, with special surprises in-store.
How do I apply? Applications open on April 20th and close on May 7th, there will be a button with a link to our printable application. This can be returned to Ms. Catherine by email, dropping off at the Church office, mailing in, etc.
Will I earn service hours for this trip? Yes!
Who do I contact if I have more questions? Ms. Catherine or Mrs. Tori! See flyer for our emails. You can also check out Catholic Mission Trip, INC's website: https://catholicmissiontrips.net/lake-charles/
_________
Throughout the year we (typically) have several smaller retreats and service opportunities as part of our youth group programming.
Many of these smaller events are low-to-no cost for participants, yet provide boundless opportunities for growth in faith, service, and care for our neighbors. The service opportunities are ways for high school students to earn service hours, while retreats are opportunities to spend days away from the rest of the world in prayer, reflection, and community with one another.
These include:
Fall Kickoff Retreat (September)
Trunk or Treat Assistance (Service opportunity - October)
40 Days for Life (October)
Born to Run (November)
New Year Retreat (January)
Parish Picnic/Easter Egg Hunt Assistance (Service opportunity - March or April)
Middle School Youth Group Retreat (service opportunity - TBD)
Summer Volunteering (day-long opportunities throughout the summer to serve at local facilities; TBD)
Summer Mini Retreats (June & July)
More details will be posted about each of these as we monitor the COVID-19 situation.
Our Patron Saints for the Volunteering & Trips part of our youth ministry programs are St. Vincent de Paul, St. Katharine Drexel, and St. Raphael.
