We need YOU. If you’re 21 or older and interested in serving the youth (6th-12th graders) of st. George Parish - this is the place for you. Read on to see what our adult volunteer teams do, how to get involved, and - if you’re between the ages of 18 & 21 - what you can do too!
Who are adult volunteers? Adult Volunteers in Youth Ministry are people, ages 18+, who are interested in serving as leaders, chaperones, supply getters, or helping out in other ways with our youth ministry programs.
Why are adult volunteers important? Our programs, literally, cannot run without the participation of adult volunteers like yourself. We have to have a certain number of adult chaperones at every meeting, every game night, every event we host in order to follow diocesan-mandated Child Protection/Safe Environment rules. But beyond just needing you to fill a requirement - we need you to be examples of what it means to live out your faith in daily life. And honestly? That’s more important.
We need adults who will be witnesses to middle school and/or high school students just by being present and showing that faith matters. I think most of us can recall a person who inspired us to be the Catholics we are today. Many of us may have experiences in youth groups prior where a volunteer said or did something that made us realize that our faith matters. YOU can be that person for one of our youth.
We are all called to go and make disciples, right? Start here. Start now. We have a place for everyone, every skill level, every commitment level, we need you.
What would I do as an adult volunteer? An excellent question! That’s up to you, actually, and what you want to do. Here are the different areas/teams we need adults for:
Adult Leadership Team: This team helps plan, coordinate, and run our events for high school and middle school youth groups. You’ll be invited to share your faith in a testimony, prepare and give presentations on matters of faith, run games, lead small groups, be a central part of our youth ministry events! Any adult 18 or over.
Chaperone Team: This team is for those who feel a pull to be involved in youth ministry but don’t feel called to be a leader, instead you’d be a presence at events and help us keep an eye on the students, make sure people don’t wander off, and participate as much or as little as you want in youth group activities. You won’t be asked to present, share a testimony, or lead any part of an event unless you want to. Simply being there, being a presence, helps our students realize that youth group (and any faith related activities) are important. Chaperones must be 21 or older.
Or, if neither of those fits what you want/feel called to do - reach out to me (Miss Catherine) and let’s figure out what we can do for you, and what you can do for us.
How do I get involved? Just a few simple steps and you’ll be set:
Fill out the interest form on the side, tell me about yourself, and I’ll contact you to further discuss your involvement. Welcome!
Follow the Child Protection Certification steps - see the link in the sidebar - this is required and you cannot participate or be present at any events with youth until you have this certification.
Come to your first event and see what our youth group looks like.
