St. George Catholic School

St. George School has a long and successful tradition of providing Catholic education to the children of Baton Rouge. St. George opened its doors in 1960 and has grown to meet the changing needs of its students. St. George has been able to provide for the education of the whole child by providing a progressive curriculum that integrates faith and academics. Over 1095 students benefit from the service provided by our volunteer service groups.

School Service Groups

Home and School Association

This association complements and supports the staff and faculty of St. George in fulfilling goals of Catholic education. The H&SA strengthens ties in the community among family, school and parish. The Home and School Association provides room parents for each class and sponsors a variety of social activities. All parishioners are invited to support this organization.

Athletic Association

This association provides a complete inter-scholastic and intramural program for St. George School and Parish. The association provides coaches and officials for volleyball, basketball, football and track. Contact Shelly Melancon, Athletic Director, at 293-2212.

School Advisory Committee

The role of the School Advisory Committee is to promote the school mission and the goals of the Education Commisssion. With prayer as its foundation, the SAC encourages a spirit of cooperation through its commitment to children, parents, faculty and staff by facilitating communication between these groups. The SAC also works to discern needs within the school community and makes recommendations to the administration.

Special Education Services

Available through the Diocese of Baton Rouge

The Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Schools Office has expanded its "Special" education programming from an existing one-site program to seven Catholic school sites around the diocese beginning with the 2015-2016 school year. With a mission of Faith Formation, Individual Development, and Preparation for the Future, the Diocesan Department of Special Education will not only be offering a Program for Exceptional Students, but also Dyslexia Lab services for regular education students.

Exceptionalities served will include (but are not necessarily limited to) Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, Specific Learning Disability, Other Health Impairment, and Developmental Delay. Limited space is available. Interested applicants should visit csobr.org to access the application and tuition/fee schedule. There is also a link for those interested in making a donation to this most worthy endeavor. Whatever your interest level in the program, please keep it in your hearts and prayers as they seek to provide appropriate services to students in our diocese so that all families who wish can have the "Gift for Life" that is Catholic Schools.
