First Reconciliation & Eucharist

Celebrating God's Forgiveness & Entering into the Fullness of Christ

The Catholic Church recognizes that parents are the first educators of their children, and that a child's understanding of God's love and forgiveness is best experienced in the family setting.  This school year will be a very special year for your child and your family.  We are looking forward to working with you as we prepare your child for those important events.

Our porgram requires families to provide in depth preparation of the second graders for the celelbrations of Reconciliation and First Eucharist through at home preparation, parent seminars, and parent/child retreats.

Requirements to Begin Preparation

Child must be in second grade or up.

Children must have regularly attended faith formation classes the year prior to preparation and be attending regularly the year they prepare for this sacrament.

St. George must have on file a copy of the baptismal certificate (or other acceptable proof of baptism) of each child preparing for the Sacrament of First Eucharist before completion of the preparation.  If a family no longer has a copy of the child’s original certificate, the parish of baptism can be directly contacted to request a copy (note that most churches require a few weeks notice).

Registration

Parents must register their child in order to participate in the sacramental preparation process for Reconciliation and First Eucharist.  Please register by clicking on the "Sacramental Registration" link in the sidebar.  All registrations must be complete by Monday, August 22, 2016.

The fee for sacramental preparation is $50.00 per child.  This fee will cover expenses incurred during the Reconciliation and First Eucharist preparation, seminars, retreats, and reception.  You can pay the fee online when you submit your registration.

If you child was not baptized at St. George Church, please request a copy of their sacramental record from the church where they were baptized and have it sent to the church office, Attention: First Eucharist.

Children who have been enrolled in Catholic education, but were never baptized or were baptized in another faith tradition, are elegible to participate in this process.  However, you must contact the Church Office to discuss what additional steps may be required before they begin First Eucharist preparation.

Parent Interviews

During the week of August 29 - September 9, the church office will be holding interviews to meet personally with the parents of second grade students in our program.  During this time, we will have the chance to get to know you and to answer any questions or concers you may have about your child's perpartion.  Scheduling of interviews will begin on August 22 and can be accessed by clicking on the "Schedule Interview" link when it becomes live.
